Member of theatrical rock group “The Tubes”, (1975-76)

Produced and Curated (with Stan Peskett) Graffiti Art Events (Canal Zone) which helped promote the careers of artists Jean Michel Basquiat, Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quiones and others (1979)

Produced and directed the first B-Boy (breakdance) film “Catch a Beat,” 1981)
|
|
Formed band, “Gray”, together with artist Jean Michel Basquiat(1979-81)
|
|
Created the first Hip Hop club/venue in downtown NYC Negril, 1981) presenting artists such as; DJ Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Kool Herc, new York City Breakers and the Rock Steady Crew

Wrote first Hip Hop Culture articles, for The East Village Eye, January,1981

Introduced Malcolm McLaren to the Bronx Hip Hop world - Malcolm then hired me to create a Hip Hop Venue including DJ Afrika Bambaataa, The Rock Steady Crew, and my film “Catch A Beat”) which opened for Malcolm’s band, Bow Wow Wow, at The Ritz in New York City (1980) - this precipitated the introduction of Hip Hop to Europe and the rest of the world.

Associate Produced “Beat Street,” first Hip Hop feature film, produced by Harry Belafonte and David Picker (Orion Pictures 1983) Produced, Wrote and Hosted “Graffiti Rock,” the first ever, Emmy Award Nominated Rap & Hip Hop television show, aired in 88 syndicated markets nationwide (1984.)

Created licensing deals for the New York City Breakers with manufacturers of sports wear, as-well-as toy companies including Mattel, Inc.(1985)(Viewmaster’s NYC Breakers addition)

Authored the B-Boy/Hip Hop culture book, “Breaking” published by Freunlich Books/Scribners Books (1984)

|
Written about, and/or interviewed in the following publications; The NY Times, Time, Newsweek, Science Christian Monitor, The London Times, Interview, The Houston Chronicle, The Hollywood Reporter, Art Monthly, New York Magazine, and Rolling Stone Magazine.

Was interviewed on camera, regarding art and urban culture, by CBS Sunday Morning, Good Morning America, PM Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, the BBC News, various documentaries on the subject, etc.

Reynolds
